OIZO's SF INVASION - 12/3/10

The illusive Mr. Oizo's music has been a staple of dance floors across the world for years. The man, however, has not. Hailing from Paris, Oizo (real name Quentin Dupleux) has been locked away working on and scoring the soundtrack to his second film Rubber. Lucky for us this all changes next month when he takes the decks at 103 Harriet. If you are into electro you cannot afford to miss this show. And tickets are only $16. Check out the live set below.

Halloween SF: LIVE105 Digs Deep With Killer Spookfest Lineup

The Lineup speaks for itself. Well done.

Here are my Power Rankings:

1.UNDERWORLD: The British duo that’s responsible for some of the biggest tracks in dance music are back with a new album and supporting tour. Never heard of them? Go check out their videos on Youtube playing in front of 100,000 people. Yeah, they are kinda a big deal. In a start studden lineup this is by far my #1 pull.

UNDERWORLD Live @ Priviledge -Ibiza (BBC RadioOne Essential Mix)

2. Wolfgang Gartner: He killed the Sahara mid afternoon on Friday and amazed again at EDC in June. This rising American star throws down one of the hardest sets you will ever experience.

Wolfgang Gartner LIVE @ WMC Beach Party 2010

3.MSTRKRFT: At EDC Al-P and JFK brought their signature MSTRKRFT sound and threw down a new and mysterious tracklist that covered their own originals, classic remixes, and even teased us with some unreleased samples. This set will without a doubt be the biggest party at Spookfest this year.

MSTRKRFT BBC Radio One Essential Mix 5/2008. Old but its a classic

4. DJ Shadow
5. Booka Shade
6. Dada Life

Oh yeah. And tickets are only $50 - no fees. Get there HERE

Swedish House Mafia_ KINGS OF CREAMFIELDS

They headlined Electric Daisy Carnival in Los Angeles, had their own tent at Creamfields in the UK, and ran the biggest residency in Ibiza. And that’s just since June. By far the biggest collaboration in dance music, the threesome of Axwel, Sebastian Ingrosso, and Steve Angello aka the Swedish House Mafia are living like rockstars right now and they deserve it. Flawlessly mixing old megahits with their newest singles and remixes, their sets have a bit of a old school sing along feel that is pure rave and has captivated dancefloors all over the globe. Perhaps what stands out about the Swedish House Mafia is their consistency in their mix. Attributed by their customized work on each song they play live, their sets feature many of their own individual remixes and have created the signature SHM sound.

Since June we have been reliving EDC with the Sirius Satelite Radio recording. Now we have another gem courtesy of their recent BBC Radio One Essential Mix recorded live from Creamfields last weekend. Clocking in at a full 2 hours, this mix is a little more adventurous than their set in LA, and I will go out and say I lprefer it. Check it out and let me know what you think.

VITALIC (Live MIRRORS) @ 103 Harriet - 10/1

Vitalic is back and this time he's bringing his mirrors. The rig that was been causing a buzz all over Europe for the last year and a half and drawing comparisons to Daft Punk's pyramid is finally making it's San Francisco debut on October 1st at 103 Harriet. I was lucky enough to catch his set at Mezzanine in the Fall and was completely blown away by his clean mixing, powerful live sound, and his massive shaved head. Check out the links below for ticket information ($25) and a special recording of his set at Oxegen Festival last month in Scotland. Procrastinators beware, the Mezzanine show sold out and this venue is smaller.

BBC Radio One: The Best Out There

Two years ago I was introduced to BBC Radio One through their legendary Essential Mix show hosted by Pete Tong and I havent looked back since. What started as two flawless hours of mixing by MSTKRRFT has now become my go to radio station for music and I think this is something everyone should have. A blend of pop, hip hip, and electronic music, BBC Radio One has great music, no commercials, and incredibly interactive disc jockeys. There are multiple ways to get it.... and here are the two I use:

Car:
Sirius XM
Link: Sirius XM: BBC RadioOne
Delay: The pay service broadcasts Radio One on an 8hr delay
Cost: $8/month

iPhone:
Fstream Application
Delay: Broadcasts it live as if you were in London.

EDC. Getting Ready

EDC is going to be beyond huge this year. Lets party

Here are mixes from some of EDC's top talent this year. There's more content for Friday because its the better day.

Friday: (In order of who I care to see)

Swedish House Mafia
The Swedish megagroup of Axwel, Steve Angello, and Sebastian Ingrosso had a HUGE 2009 and are finally coming to LA. Here is their Essential Mix recorded LIVE @ the Warehouse Project 12/28/08

Moby (DJ SET)

Moby killed it in 08 and will no doubt be bringing it again this year. The mans a legend that cannot be missed.

Basement Jaxx (DJ SET)
Saw the guys at Halloween and they were awesome. Pure dance your ass off beats with a mix of acid house, jaxx classics, dubstep, and the occasional Queen track. This mixtape is all I could really find of theirs and although it has its moments, it doesnt really capture the talent of the British duo.

Deadmau5
He has a cool new cube. Here is his Essential Mix from 08 recorded live @ the Warehouse Project in Manchester

Jack Beats
The biggest name in wobble, Jack Beats have had a remarkable rise to fame with their killer remixes and epic live mixes. Here is their Essential Mix from earlier this year.

Saturday:

SASHA
Its been 11 years since Sasha was last honored as the world #1 DJ but the man from Wales still remains one of the biggest names in electronic music. Don't miss him

MSTRKRFT:
This right here is the first Essential Mix I ever downloaded. The Canadian duo know how to bring it and will be a great clash against the horrible mainstage trash that is Saturday night.

Wolfgang Gartner:
The surprise act of Coachella this year, the American is set to destroy @ EDC on Saurday. Here is a recording taken from his set at Coachella

About Time.... EDC final lineup

The long awaited EDC lineup is here and its better than I could have imagined. New additions to the previous post include Basement Jaxx (DJ SET), James Zabiela, Dada Life, among others. At an event that last year set the mark on its Saturday card, I'm liking Friday this year a lot more. Either way its going to be a huge party. Get your tickets while you can.

This is the first post of many that will feature artists at this years edc. Stay tuned for more

Vitalic brought his best to SF this past weekend and left a sold out crowd at Mezzanine begging for more. His set was a flawless combination of Cocaine Cowboy and Flashmob with added bonuses like the Chemical Brother's megahit Galvanize. Honestly it was the best set ive seen in the emerging SF scene so hopefully he'll be back soon

Calvin Harris LIVE @ the WAREHOUSE PROJECT

In a matter of hours the Warehouse Project in Manchester transforms from a normal parking garage into one of the most infamous dance clubs in all of Europe. Only open from September to January every year, the 15 week run brings out the best of the best of electronic music who play to 2000 crazed fans. Rallying off the success of Deadmau5's live Essential Mix there in 2008, Pete Tong invited Scottish DJ Calvin Harris to spin for the last Essential Mix of the decade. The mix is a classic Harris blend of disco house infused with some of his own tracks. The mixing is clean, the energy high, and the crowd wild. enjoy
