Dim Mak Goes Global - Shinichi Osawa

Coming to us from Tokyo, Shinichi Osawa has been all over the US scene lately. Signing for Dim Mak records this past year, he followed that up an appearance at EDC and now is making his HARD debut this October. I caught the first part of his set at EDC and it was good. Probably would have appreciated it more if there hadn't been so many other great artists playing so I will definitely be giving him another shot at HARD HM.

Not Another French DJ Part 2 - YUKSEK

One of the things many dj’s aren't given credit for is their vast musical talent. Similar to Bob Rifo of the Bloody Beetroots, Yuksek (Pierre-Alexandre Busson) grew up learning music on a classical piano and even specialized at it in school. At the age of 17 Busson left school to pursue his music career and the rest is history. With a signature French “softer Justice” meets the pop of Soulwax sound and the ability to do all his vocals live, Yuksek has become a powerhouse in the electronic music scene. I caught some of his dj set last time he was in LA and I was impressed. Hopefully he will bring his LIVE show to the US soon cause the video above is incredible.

DANCEiSM Brings East West

Ill admit I had many opportunities to go to DANCEiSM events while at USC. Don't know whether it was the small scene, unheard of dj's, or just that i wasn't into the music, but the company has grown and now has grabbed my attention again. Last spring they brought out Designer Drugs, and now they've expanded again bringing in Dim Mak's Felix Cartel from Vancouver and NYC resident AC Slater for their September 4th event downtown at Lot 613. Having seen Rusko blow the roof at the venue a few months back, I cant wait...see u there

Haunted 2.0

Similar to the undercard at boxing or mma fights, the 3rd tier and below on event fliers often discarded and ignored up-incomers or has beens. The artists you hear while you are in line, or you would hear had you cared to show up early….right? Well I learned my lesson last year that the undercard can sometimes be the best of the night. Last year at HARD Summer at the Shrine, a 3th tier act that consisted of two Italians wearing creepy masks and couldn’t stop head bobbing blew headliners MSTRKRFT outta the building, and grew into what we now know as the Bloody Beetroots. Im not going to say that these guys will have the success of the BB, but after listening to them for a while tonight, they are pretty damn good…

Iggor Cavalera and Laima Leyton might just be the happiest couple in the world. Married, the two make up Mixhell, a raw, loud, and random mash of European electro, Brazilian rap, and even some old school American rock. Here are two mixes of theirs… I enjoyed the Mishka one a little more but both are quality

Zombie Nation MYSPACE

Based out of Munich, Germany producer Florian Senfter might best be known for his arena anthem “Kernkraft 400” that you hear at every possible sporting event in the US, but he also knows how to throw down a dirty mixtape.

Modeselektor MYSPACE

Hailing from Berlin, Modselektor are legends in the minimalist techno arena. The pair, made up of Gernot Bronsert and Sebastian Szary have been around in various projects since 1992 and their maturity shows through in the depth of the mix. I little too thin for me but still much can be taken from this hour long set.

HARD Redemtion Part 1:

So after an entire day of hearing people bitch about HARD Summer, Im over it. Yes, what happened last night sucks but if you knew anything about the industry you'd know this shit happens so get over it. Moving on HARD's next event is this Halloween. There were a few good things to come of last night, the first of which is the announcement of the lineup for HARD Haunted Mansion. In addition to HARD's resident Crookers and Steve Aoki, HARD ability to bring artist like 2MANYDJ's and Basement Jaxx to their events gives us an opportunity to catch some great artists who rarely venture across the pond. We also benefit from the termination of the partnership with the Forum. All over the internet people called foul when HARD announced the move there and it looks like they were right. The place sucks, so in the worst way possible, last nights failure benefits us in the long run as we no longer have to deal with that horrible place and Inglewood PD. Last but not least, lets look at this as the bad egg of the dozen and lessons can be learned. Take a hint from Insomniac and hire 20x as many security as needed so people can get in happily and the event can be run well. So yes, it does suck that last night happened, but lets look ahead to the party that will be HARD Haunted Mansion, realize that MonsterMassive is still worse, and lets go...

Here is some music/mixes from some artists you might not know a lot about...Enjoy

HARD. fail

So HARD Summer is over. From the get go there were major issues with capacity and security never even let it really begin. Not a good way to start at a new venue, especially after announcing a start studded lineup for their next event to be held at the same location in October....

ciaotigaHardfest LA: riot cops in Inglewood! No thanks.... Just escaped from the Forum. Party is over, bad scene.

There are almost more questions raised then answered:
1. Will the people get their money back?
2. Will HARD stick with the Forum?
3. Is this the end for the HARD brand?

UPDATE: HARD was shut down by the Inglewood police....

UPDATE: HARD will be refunding all the tickets. Stay tuned to to see how you can get a refund. Good luck
