A Touch of Trance - Klaas

Although im not the biggest fan of trance, I gotta give credit to artists that can get people moving and create buzz beyond the electronic music genre. Hailing from Cologne, Germany no artists has epitomized the popular dance track over the past year like Klass in his remixes of Guru Josh Project’s– “Infinity 2008” and Basement Jaxx/Jean Elan's – “Where’s Your Head At?” I was hoping Insomniac would bring him to EDC this year after he traveled all the way here for a show at the 420 Festival a few months back, but I guess we’ll have to wait. For a sample of how he sounds live, download his set from the Euforia Festival 2008 directly below.

VIKING purge

Hailing from Richmond,VA Philip Ceconi aka VIKING is a name you need to remember. A testament of how powerful the blogosphere and TheHypeMachine can be, the djs quick rise to fame has seen his remix of Kid Cudi's "dat New New" surpass the 1.5 million hits on youtube and continues to grow as the young star releases more work. With a MSTRKRFT meets Congrorock sound, the sharp beats and catchy hooks have left an impression as he recently opened for Dave from Chromeo and the legendary Webster Hall in NYC. With a solid array of original songs to go with his remix work lets hope a trip out West Coast is in the near future.

Essential Review - Fake Blood

Ill admit I was pretty surprised when I saw that Fake Blood was awarded an Essential mix for BBC Radio One and Pete Tong. Although Mars was THE song of 2008 he still wasn’t at the level of the artists that who had presented earlier in the year like 2ManyDJ's, Armin Van Buuren and Sander Van Doorn, to name a few. One hour later I was hooked. Breaking from the traditional 2hr set, Keating splits his set up with first hour as a mix for the “club” and the second for the “after party.” Flawlessly working his remixes in with mostly unknown songs, Fake Blood is able to take the best samples from each and put them together in a masterful way. Unlike most Essential Mix’s that start strong, bore for the middle hour, and finish strong, the split mix had presented me with an hour of epic proportions with an hour of bring you back down to normal level. This mix set the tone for what was to be seen at EDC this year, and live he is even better.

Enjoy

Everybody Likes A Bit Of FAKE BLOOD

Formerly know as DJ Touche' Fake Blood (Theo Keating) hit the scene with the iconic hit Mars and has been tearing it up ever since. Mixing minimalist electronic techno with his big box remixes, FakeBlood's raw live style and unique beatmatching was the perfect way to open up EDC. All in all the audience was loving it and so was I, making his set the highlight of my Friday. Hopefully he will come back soon (HARD Haunted Mansion?) until then enjoy the music below.

Techno is from Detroit....really

Techno music might be bigger in Europe, but it was founded here in the USA.

At 63 minutes High Tech Soul is a documentary that tells the personal tale of the Belleville Three (Juan Atkins, Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson) and how the genre came to be what it is today. From small abandoned automotive warehouses in Detroit to the massive festivals like Electronic Daisy Carnival in Los Angeles, electronic music has finally come home.

Bauhau5 n' Stuff

Simple. Clean. Effective

In the vision of its founder Walter Gropius, the Bauhaus sought to bring harmony between artistic function and form. Incorporating art, architecture, and graphic design into one institution, the school was a revolutionary idea that grew into one of the most influential social institutions of the past century.

As a new form of art, electronic dance music has slowly transitioned from underground obscurity to the popular mainstream. With this growth, however, has come a flood of overproduced and marginal music. Set in the ideas of the Bauhaus, this blog will present you with music that is simple, effective, can stir emotion, and get you moving.

Enjoy
