This right here is exactly what I needed. What better to wake me up out of my winter hibernation then 40min of pure electro kick in the face energy from our good friend CJ Milli. A seamless mix of dirty English fidget, dubstep (The drop at 28:13 is SO nasty), and the occasional classic vocal, this right here is my favorite of her works to date and one of the best mixes ive heard in months. Keep killin it Christi and please pass it along to Phil that my grandpa wants his sweater back
The nastiest name in electro will finally be crossing the Bearing Straight and coming to America. You’ve official been warned. After two years of dropping tracks that made the Bloody Beetroots look soft, Yevgeny Alexandrovitch Pozharnov (Russian enough?) as he is known in his homeland approval for a work visa is the biggest sign of PROGRESS Obama has made since January. Granted all we know about is his set in New York’s famed Terminal 5 for the second edition of HARD NYC, but the fact that he’ll be within US borders gives us hope that he’ll reign in the Sahara and bring one of the most anticipated dj sets in recent memory. I’m hoping for HARD NYC, Coachella, then HARD LA (see below) but it could be weeks till we find out. In the mean time check out a live set from the summer of 08 and some of his best singles/remixes
If you liked their set at HARD Haunted Mansion this year this download is a must. Recorded LIVE @ the Rock Werchter Festival in Belgium this past July, the set is similar to their current DVJ set that we saw twice in Los Angeles and had me having flashbacks to their set for the entire hour a half. Enjoy
Thursday November 19th will forever go down as one of the most memorable days of my music career. After an otherwise normal day of work I took a break to check out Facebook and saw Gary Richards from HARD announcing this:
"OH SHIT ITS ON... THE BLOODY BEETROOTS LIVE IN 2010 @BLOODYBEETROOTS http://tinyurl.com/ykdz4jy @DESTRUCTOHARD"
The much rumored LIVE set from the Bloody Beetroots would be debuting on US shores at the famed Palladium one week after Coachella. Yes Gary, its on and you are fucking killing it right now. Quickly telling all the friends to snatch up the $30 tickets while they lasted, I moved on to Southwest booked by plane tickets and came to the realization that April is gonna be incredible
Next up was Royksopp LIVE at the Regency in San Francisco. Having listened to their Junior album non stop for the past week and hearing rave reviews of their show in LA from the night before, I couldnt wait to see the Norwegian duo for the first time. Their set featured a combination of their older tracks like Eple and Remind Me with newer hits like Happy Up Here and The Girl and the Robot and was incredibly fun to experience live. Wish the crowd woulda been more into it but we pulled up their slack and danced our asses off. COACHELLA 2010 is a must
Starting the day with news of the Beetroots and ending it with a show from Royksopp = awesome
The duo of Al-P and JFK had a huge 2009. Releasing their second album “Fist of God” that featured guest appearance from the likes John Legend, E-40, and the N.O.R.E. the albums sick fusion of electro and rap played a major role in electronic musics resurgence in pop culture. The guys always play a high energy set that gets the floor moving and will surely destroy Vanguard so if you're in LA this is a must
Their Essential Mix from 2008 was the first one I ever downloaded and to this day is still one of my favorites. Tickets to their show at Vanguard in Hollywood have gone up to $40 and u can get them HERE
Honorable Mention:JUSTICE After a incredibly disappointing set last year the last thing I wanted to see at HARD HM was another Justice DJ SET. With an hour and a half of straight dancing to Basement Jaxx behind us, we moved away from the stage outside and took a break and rest up for another two and a half hours of rave. Within the first 5minutes it became clear that this wasn’t your normal Justice DJ SET. Dropping original tracks, some classic Thomas Bangalter songs like “Gym Tonic” and his edit of Mehdi’s “Signatune” and even some Duck Sauce, the set was by far the biggest surprise of the weekend. The set was so good in fact, that id even see them again.
Oh and they also dropped an unreleased SebastiAn track that made its debut at Cinespace last year. If anyone has it lemme know
Dear GoVentures and all the people that went to MonsterMassive,
Both of us might have had a fun Halloween, but we had more of it. Here is Why...
Security: Professional and Fast. It took 5 min to get on Friday and 20 on Sat. Production: Sound was top notch. Lighting and visuals solid. Definitely the best run highest quality HARD event to date. Music: Quality. Over the 14hr period there wasn’t a single moment of disappointment or boredom
1. Basement Jaxx (Saturday): The duo started with Disney hit “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” dropped Red Alert and threw it into dubstep heavy “When I Look At You.” Joining them on stage were Vula AND Slarta John from their live set that added flare and character to their set. It was the fastest hour and a half ive ever experienced. Highlight: Ending the set with "Wheres Your Head At?"
2. 2ManyDJ’s (Friday) Class act. Throwing conventional out the door, the Dawale brothers played their live DVJ set at HARD Haunted Mansion and the djing world will never be the same. Instead of using cd’s, a laptop, or even vinyls, the Dewaele brothers used DVD’s. Yes, that’s correct, movies. And not just any dvd’s personalized videos for each track that featured custom animations on top of the musics album art. Highlight: Mixing Dolly Parton into Slayer
3. The Bloody Beetroots: (Friday) Led with a new version of Warp that created a mash pit at a rave the set went old school 30min in and came together as one of the best sets ive ever seen. Highlight: “We Are From Venice” One of their first tracks, the classic song isn’t ravey but absolutely destroyed.
4. Modeselektor: a. Didn’t know much about these guys before the event and figured id catch Zombie Nation instead. Friends led me to the biggest surprise of the festival as Modeselektor played a high energy minimalistic set (yea, doesn’t really make sense but it just works). Oh and there was an alien autopsy going on stage left which was triply as fuuuuck. Highlight: After sound was cut at 3:58 the guys moved the monitor speakers to the audience, turned it up, and kept playing. Fuck You sound guy, I wanna play
5. Danger a. The perfect way to start what would be two incredible days of music. I don’t think the crowd really knew what was going on but I don’t give a shit cuz his set was dope. Highlight: Ending with his Sebastian Tellier remix of "Divine"
Letdowns: Deadmau5: Where was the energy from last year? Major Lazer: My brain doesn’t like your music. Its tried three times and sorry. The stage antics aren’t my think either. Do as 2ManyDJ’s does, smile play your music and look classy.
One message was certain the entire weekend: HARD is back and NYE is next
SATURDAY: The second day of HARD features some of the biggest names HARD’s ever brought out. The legendary duo of Felix Buxton and Simon Ratcliffe aka Basement JAXX might have left their band and singers back in the UK, but with over two decades making hits like “Where’s Your Head At?” and “Red Alert” their credentials speak for themselves and make them one of the most exciting sets of Satuday. Joining them as return headliners are Justice, who’s set last year left a lot to be desired and my patients lasting a meer 8minutes into their “Lets Get the Party Started” before we left. Check out the rest of the headliners and performers below
Spent a little time this week digging through the archives to present to u the complete collection of all that will be HARD Haunted Mansion. Last year put the company on the map and this year its set to bring them back. The buzz is building around the "Special Guest" slots on Friday and Saturday and as much as Id love to make my predication, I also like to sleep. Lemme know if you have any questions or need recommendations. Ill post the set times when I get them
As you can probably tell I'm not a big fan of trance. Whether its the fact that its a little too boring, it all sounds the same, or that its biggest fans are the people i despise most at raves, its just not my thing. However, I gotta give credit where its do and GoVentures has my utmost respect. Throwing their 12th Annual Monster Massive at the Sports Arena, the one night event is expected to bring out 60,000+ people to see the soon to be knocked off #1 DJ in the world Armin Van Buuren. Yes, u heard me right... David Guetta is going to be #1. For the first time in over a decade the top spot will be a house dj. But... Moving on.... Joining AVB on the mainstage will be former #1 Sasha and rising Argentinian star Hernan Catteneo. Im a big fan of the "House of Horror" stage that features the legendary Pete Tong, Felix Da Housecat, and one of my favorite acts from EDC James Zabiela. Kinda disappointed that the lineup is so similar to last year (Some 60% of the artists are the same...) but thats beside the point. Its going to be a big party with some great artists. And for those of u out there that will partyin till 4am at the former home of the Clippers and USC basketball, have fun with the mixes below and lemme know what your plans are after, cuz ill be down the block and an afterparty is a must
Anyone that has videos on their Myspace of Erol Alkan, Crookers, and Boys Noize droppin their shit live must be pretty legit. The crazy thing, is that its not even the same song. The 21 year old from San Diego might be undercard performer at HARD Haunted Mansion but I cant wait to him drop his hits like "Caked," "81" and his remix of "Lightworks" in a matter of weeks. Im yet to find a weakspot in the lineup so if you've never had a listen to Harvard Bass check it out below.
Oh yeah, and did I mention he's opening for TIESTO on his upcoming American tour? Yea, you've been warned
K ill admit im kinda on a English fix at the moment but is that really such a bad thing? Coming in as one of the biggest artists of the first half of 2009, La Roux's talent and rise into the upper echelon of electronic music can be seen in the flock to remix her. And from one of dubsteps dirtiest Skream! to turntable champions Jack Beats, to Tiesto’s leading his huge weekly podcast with a remix by Dean Coleman & Nima Nas, djs all over the world have been taking her soft voice, cutting it up, and making some of the top dirtiest dance tracks. And at only 21 years of age you can expect a great future from Eleanor "Elly" Jackson.
We got here a 32min live set from our contributors Sean aka DJ Boludo/ Velocita/ or my personal favorite, Flaggg Burner. Clean mixing, great track selection, and a solid combination of punch you in the face beats and top notch vocals make this a great way to enjoy 1/48th of the day
btw. This is the beginning of mix series that will feature some of Los Angeles best unknown talents. Look down for the set and tracklist.
Cheap Thrills can do no wrong. A team of award winning raw turntable talent, the record label that features the likes of Jack Beats, Fake Blood, Herve, and the highly anticipated colabo Machines Don't Care, the British label is on top of the world right now. A powerhouse of British fidget house, the label has also been key in helping bring dubstep kings like Skream! Caspa, and Joker to the world. If you have any doubts go back and listen to Fake Blood or Herve’s Essential Mixes’ think about how many hits are on them, and realize that they came out before you even knew what dubstep was. Both Essential mixes are in previous posts (below) and a while back so grab those too. If you like what you hear go and get their new release of Cheap Thrills: Volume 1
A lil bit of dubstep, a lotta dirty English electro, and insane dj skills puts Herve's Essential Mix at the top of my list. Having spent the last few weeks consolidating my music collection to help with the commute to work I'd finally narrowed it down between Fake Blood, MSTRKRFT, Crookers, and Deadmau5's Warehouse Project set but today, at the moment when he dropped Skream's "Lets Get Ravey" mix of La Roux's "In For the Kill" at the 70 min mark it just came to me. This was the best mix I'd ever listened to. The man behind Cheap Thrills Records has been a staple in the electronic music community for years and turned me on to the likes of Fake Blood, Jack Beats, and Sinden. World, if you don't already know the man get ready cuz he's about to go bonkers. Hopefully we can get him and the Cheap Thrills crew out to California soon but until then enjoy the hard drops and filthy beats.
Yea I don’t know what legendary producers Armand Van Helden and A-Trak were thinking when they came up with Duck Sauce but I don’t really care cuz the music is ill. Each of the three "released" tracks are top notch and have been some of the most played all summer. Hey HARD, flights from NYC to LAX are only $300 now, make it happen cuz u already have A-Trak...
So this whole job thing has been a setback for the site but rest assured im still here and building up a war chest of music for you. And what a month we have in front of us. This past weekend in San Francisco I was able to witness LovEvolution (Formerly Love Fest) which, to be honest, was a huge disappointment. The parade was cool but the party was way too full, security was awful, and there were too many “that guy” assholes everywhere. The diversity of the music was one of the highlights but only 30min sets from Deadmau5 and the scarcity of water to purchase (I was sober) made it impossible to enjoy the experience. Oh and for those that wanted to go to the Spundae after party, tickets were $98 a week before. On a positive note the weather in SF was absolutely spectacular and with so much going on this weekend the city was crazy. Add that to a dominating USC victory and this Weekender is up there with the best of them.
This is a big month we have coming up ladies and gentlemen. This weekend the guys at Nitrus and HARD are bringing Chromeo to downtown October 9th, Insomniac is hosting Kaskade at the Palladium on the 17th, and Benny Benassi at Vanguard on the 24th, and then we close the month with two days of HARD Haunted Mansion and GoVenture’s Monster Massive on Halloween night.
Heres a preview of the epic October in front of us
Osawa caught my attention at EDC this Summer and I haven't looked back. With remixes of Boys Noize, Felix Da Housecat, and a ton of others this just makes Saturday at HARD Haunted Mansion all that much better. Its a double cd that is half originals and half remixes so be sure u extract both from the .zip file
Hailed as the next Pete Tong, BBC Radio 1's Annie Mac is already a legend of the electronic music scene. Whether it be her weekly radio show Annie Mac's Mini Mix that features the best of the best, running stages at major festivals like Creamfield, or on tour tearing apart dance floors from Ibiza to San Francisco, the Irish born dj does it all. Lucky for me shes in town tonight while I'm up in the bay area so Ill be able to see her in a few hours. Lucky for you all in the southland, she's playing at Discotheque in downtown tomorrow night. RSVP HERE for the LA show and check out one her fer famous 5min minimixes from one of my favorites Fake Blood and her own Essential Mix recorded live at Privilege in Ibiza.
I've seen Dylan Eiland aka Le Castle Vania destroy the dance floors twice now and its definitely a spectacle any dirty techno lover needs to see. The guys got talent both on the decks and in the studio so if you're in LA check out this free show. His myspace has a bunch of free high quality music also so get a few here and complete your library later. Enjoy
France has its fair share of artists turned dj's but few have the range and talent of Frank Rivolre aka Danger. With a style that emulates the 1980's video game start menu songs with modern French electro, the artist sounds a little like Kavinsky but with less edge and more rhythm. So far I've been listening to a few of his tracks after discovering him on the HARD HM poster and I'm impressed. I know you hear that a lot from me, but what can I say, I only post what I like. Going back to his live sets, having watched some videos I can tell you he doesn't play the highest energy set but his natural builds and blending techniques will definitely be a highlight for Friday. If for whatever reason you aren't planning on going to HARD HM, he just added a show at Avalon after his set at HARD so you can catch him there. And I don't really know why he does the mask gimmick that looks kinda like a child version of the Bloody Beetroots masks but hey, he's doing something right and im not going to tell him to change...
And all joking aside, his remix of Boys Noize - Ne.Oh!.Pen is one of the best songs Ive heard in months.
New Preview - DL trial. Preview it and then click the DivShare and you'll be directed to a download link. All the files are high quality too. Let me know if you like this or the Youtube video previews better
My name is Paul, and I have joined Bauhaus Beats! I am a musician and tech geek - so naturally most of my posts will relate to the fascinating and constantly evolving world of music and DJ technology. In college I studied Business, Entrepreneurship and Music Industry. Currently I work as a web developer, but music has always been a passion of mine. I started playing piano at the age of 5, and eventually picked up the clarinet, trumpet, and guitar.
I've spent the past few years DJing at clubs and private parties around Los Angeles. I've also been producing my own music including original tracks, remixes, and DJ mix sets. I love learning about new technologies, software, hardware, techniques, and everything else needed to make and share great music. While I try to be as open minded as possible about all the great tools available, my weapon of choice is definitely Ableton Live.
While my posts will usually relate to music technology, from time to time I will also drop some fat beats for all to enjoy.
Hailing from suburban France, Mustard Pimp throws conventional out the window with a unique blend of fidget house/electro pop of Crookers with the punch u in the face energy of Don Rimini. I guess making remixes and singles weren't enough as these guys just released a 12 hour, yes as in half a day of music, mixtape appropriately named "Hercules." Having recently been signed to LA's Dim Mak Records expect them to be fastracked similar to the way the Blood Beetroots were were year, so get their music while its free. These guys Myspace is the best I've seen so in addition to all the SoundCloud free 320kb downloads below, u can find their now infamous "Hercules" mixtape and show info there. So far Ive listened to hours 1 and 3 and they are incredible.
Instead of uploading all the songs I've brought the Soundcloud here. Listen to the songs and then click download and the transfer should begin immediately

For the second installment of Transcendental Tracks, I'd like to showcase an amazing band from back east called Animal Collective. I first heard this band in high school, and was pleasantly surprised this past year to find that a once-obscure band I liked (that combined acoustic guitars AND dr. samples AND sang about "kitties") was now touring extensively and playing at giant festivals worldwide. The Collective is made up of four members, each accomplished in multiple instruments, that switch in and out of the lineup at whim, making tours, TV appearances, and studio recordings unique, dynamic experiences. Their sound is, at times, experimental and incomprehensibly weird, but is always interesting and impressive. The band's latest album, Merriweather Post Pavillion, is chalk-full of awesome electronica-influenced glitch beats, samples, and synth lines. Their work is definitely worth the itunes price-tag.
Eight years ago when Pioneer released the CDJ-1000, they revolutionized the DJ industry. Today, they are doing it again with the release of the new CDJ-2000. This new deck will soon be the worldwide club standard. Most importantly, instead of bringing an expensive laptop to each show, the CDJ-2000 allows DJs to simply bring a flash drive or SD card loaded with their entire music library. Pioneer has struck gold here. At the high price point of $2,150, expect to see these turntables slowly make it into clubs over the next several months.
Rather than bore you with all the technical details, I'll highlight the most notable features:
Whether they are still are still feeling the hangover from HARD Summer or they are upset over how HARD pulled a fast one by making people pay $40 extra to see the same headliners (over two days), many aren't happy and this events success is crucial for the company. Solution: Add Soulwax and make sure there are enough Secuirty guards....
(( And were back. Sorry I've been taking care of some real life shit and havent been able to keep the site update but rest assured a lot in coming. With Nocturnal, HARD Haunted Mansion, Monster Massive, and various other massives and club events, content is bulging from our skulls so stay tuned. ))
Anyone who's self title is One Many Party must be pretty legit right? Steve Slingeneyer might better be known as the incredibly talented drummer of Soulwax but he can also throw down a pretty dope mixtape. Joining him downtown in LA this week will be French legend Alan Braxe, who together with names like Thomas Bangalter and Falcon, helped launch what we now know as French house. Below are OMP's latest mixtape and some of Braxe's recent stuff.
Rallying off the incredible success of Electric Daisy Carnival, Insomniac has now thrown its full force behind its Fall massive, Nocturnal 2009. Yeah, it might be lacking the depth and have a less than desirable San Bernardino location, but the lineup is top notch and brings something Socal has been in dire need of, quality dubstep. Combining trance superstar Ferry Corsten, house legends like Paul Oakenfold, and up and coming electro and dubstep artists like Skream!, Nocturnal is one of the most interesting and thought provoking festivals to hit Southern California in years. Add to it the quality and security of an Insomniac event, and you've got yourselves a cant miss event. I was able to track down a ton of live sets from some of the headliners so be sure to download them and get ready for a night your wont soon forget.
Just discovered a great show courtesy of the guys over at GottaDanceDirty with Golfgang Gartner tomorrow night @ Avalon. Hailing from Austin, Texas Wolfgang Gartner (real name Joey Youngman) has quickly become one of America's top house djs with mega-hit "Flashback" and backing it up with his newest EP "Fire Power/Latin Fever." For more info and to get one the GDD discounted RSVP list click here and be sure to check out the songs below for some of his best work
Two big announcements came to us on Tuesday; the first that HARD Haunted Mansion would be returning home to the Shrine (yes...) and the second that the Bloody Beetroots, the dirties duo in electro, would be added to the lineup. Having previously been ruled out due to an event in Montreal, the guys at HARD pulled a fast one on all of us and extended the event another day which freed up the pair to the benefit of us all. Now that so many questions have been answered its time to get down to business having fun. To help celebrate the homecoming and the addition of one of electros finest, I’ve posted mixtapes and live recordings from some of Friday’s best.
And one big question remains: Will we get a Soulwax add?
